Thanks for keeping me abreast of the developments in NY 25. After Rossi-Gregorie, Coleman-Franken, this year's CT-Gov, and of course, selective recounts in FL in 2000, I've come to expect this kind of nonsense from Democrats. I'll be staying tuned.

You call Gillibrand Schumer's rubber stamp but why would two Senators from the same state and the same party vote differently? Where there are two Republican Senators in the same state they generally vote the same way. If the Tea Party got two of its people as Senators in the same state they would likely vote the same way most of the time. You might not like Gillibrand's politics but the 'rubber stamp' label is a truly dumb and pointless criticism.

I have met Chris Gibson two times and volunteer for his campaign. He is the real deal!!! He is a leader with a great moral compess and character that is second to none! We(district 20 voters are fools if we let him loose this race)! Chris grew up in a working class family and was raised to work hard and take nothing for granted! He has the leadership,education and values to lead us in district 20!

AHR - Siena also had Lazio and Paladino neck and neck the day Paladino trounced Lazio and Paladino down by over 30 points to Cuomo. I think a lot has changed there.

You do have a valid point that moderates may vote the conservative line in what would be kind of a funny nuance. Conservative vieing on the R ticket while the R's vie on the C ticket.

Still, I think if Paladino is considered too far right for moderates, they are more likely to swing for Cuomo than Lazio.

Kinda funny....last time I checked the comments section of the Times-Union political blog, there were a couple of die-hard liberals rah-rahing Murphy's Cap & Trade and 0bamacare vote and deriding Gibson as a Wall St. Lackey (or a military industrial lackey), but any lazy hack with more than one synapse can go over to open secrets and see for themselves the nearly 80,000 Murphy's campaign took in for last year's special election alone.

In the Sienna poll just before the primary Lazio was chosen by a majority of Republican voters if he was the Conservative Party candidate in a three way race. It seems that moderate Republicans (not conservatives) are up for grabs. Also the point does stand that Lazio won a Conservative Party primary handily.

While I was happy to point out that I am no economics expert, I did study a fair amount of the stuff in college. (And yes, in Albany, where I learned from a wonderful man at Shenendehowa named Mr. Beson.) My knowledge of the field and other reporting indicate one central point that I felt our post captured but yours, in describing me as "flummoxed," "not very familiar with economics" and "confused" was this: there remains debate among economists about the causes of the Great Depression as well as the effect of government intervention.

Let me test this by going to the same Web site you used and searching "Great Depression" as a key word. The first article that comes up is titled "Comparing the Federal Reserve’s Responses to the Crises of 1929-1933 and 2007-2009," by David Wheelock, and states in the abstract (before going into much further detail) that "The Great Depression experience showed that central banks should respond aggressively to financial crises to prevent a collapse of the money stock and price level."

I read the article you cited, which is actually a synopsis of articles. The synopsis the article you cited acknowledges that there is disagreement among economists, and that many believe that monetary inaction was a major factor in the Depression.

I suspect we could go back and forth like this for some time. Yes, I cited a Wikipedia post. I cited it to show what lots of people with lots of different views on this subject have said about the Depression. I believe that was clear from the context. You are, of course, entitled to interpret my words as you see fit.

So no, Mr. Foster. I have no economics questions for you. I don't know what your bona fides are or what kind of credential your "economics hat" is. But I do have two requests: first, please feel free to call me Jimmy. Second, please be courteous enough to reach out if you choose to write about me in such a personal way again.
